Welcome to Year 5!
Welcome back, we hope you have had an enjoyable summer and are ready to embrace being in Year 5! Over the next six weeks, Year Five will be following a unit of work called ‘Space Scientists’ which focuses on how our understanding of space came about and the space race.
We have two classes with 5H taught by Miss Haynes and 5S taught by Mrs Scott. Our TA is Miss Pearce.
5H- PE on Monday and Thursday
5S- Tuesday and Thursday
Homework sent on a Friday and returned on Wednesday- information about the spellings are outlined on the homework menu.
Upcoming Trips

English
This half term we will be reading Secrets of a Sun King by Emma Carroll. Within our guided reading sessions, we will be using reading skills such as understanding vocabulary, inferring from a text, predicting next steps, retrieving information and summarising a text in order to gain a deeper understanding of what we are reading. In English, we will be exploring dialogue in narrative and focusing on using the first person to write about myths and legends.
Maths
Throughout this half term, we will be exploring different number patterns and their rules such as prime numbers, square numbers and cube numbers. We will also be finding, comparing and recognising fractions. We will then use our understanding to add and subtract with fractions and mixed numbers. Science
This term in Year 5, we will be continuing to explore Space through our new science and history topic of Space Scientists. During these lessons we will look at how our understanding of the solar system came to be, the phases of the moon and its orbit around the Earth, what gravity is and the space race.
