Message to parents/carers
Year Six PE will be on the following days:

Spellings
Following assessment, the children will be given spellings to learn. These spellings will be taught throughout the week and incorporated into our English lessons. Please check the homework menu to see when the spellings will be sent home to learn. Please note this will not be every week.
- Homework will be set on a Friday and due in on the following Wednesday
- Your child’s reading record should be in school every day
- Children need to be reading at least three times a week and a comment recorded into their reading record every time they read.
English
Over the next six weeks, we will be looking at the novel “Skellig” written by David Almond, to inspire writing of different genres. In addition, we will be revising key writing skills and exploring how to vary our sentence structures for effect. We will also be thinking about the grammar terminology we already know and the new Year Six vocabulary.
Maths
In Maths, we’ll be understanding the importance of place value and using this to help us order and round numbers. In addition, we will be developing our written methods for the four operations and applying our knowledge of fractions to solve problems.
History
In Year 6, over the next six weeks, we will be following the IPC unit of Existing, Endangered, Extinct.
This unit of learning is part of the International Primary Curriculum. This curriculum sets out very clearly what children will learn in three different areas. In geography, we will be learning about the characteristics of different biomes and earth and how threats to such biomes are causing rapid change. Furthermore, in Science we will be learning about biodiversity, the impact of global warming, food chains and animal adaptation.
Science

In Science, we will be learning about learning through understanding the way the brain works.
